Domain Connected to a Disabled Optimole Account
If you try to connect your website to an Optimole account and see the error:
"This website was previously connected to an Optimole account that is now disabled"
this means your domain was previously used under an Optimole free account that has since been disabled due to quota overuse. To continue using Optimole on that domain, you need to upgrade to a paid plan.
Understanding the Error
When a free Optimole account consistently exceeds its image quota, the account is automatically disabled. To prevent abuse — such as registering multiple free accounts for the same website — Optimole locks any domain that was associated with a disabled account.
A locked domain can only be reused on a paid Optimole plan. Simply creating a new free account will not work, and the error will keep appearing.
How to Resolve the Error
Upgrade the original account
The simplest resolution is to upgrade the original (disabled) account to a paid plan:
- Go to the Optimole Dashboard and sign in with the email address of the original account.
- If the account is disabled, use the Forgot password option if needed to regain access.
- Follow the upgrade prompts to switch to a paid plan.
- Once upgraded, your domain will be unlocked and you can continue using Optimole.
Connect the domain to a new paid account
If you prefer to use a different account:
- Make sure the new account is on a paid plan.
- In your WordPress admin, go to the Optimole plugin settings.
- Enter the API key from the new paid account and save.
⚠️ Important: The domain cannot be connected to a new free account. Only a paid plan can unlock a domain that was previously on a disabled account.
If you cannot access the original account
If you cannot recover access to the original account and you already have a new paid account:
- Contact Optimole support.
- Provide the email address of your new paid account.
- Support will investigate and assist with the transition.
After Connecting to a Paid Account
Once the domain is active on a paid account:
- In your WordPress admin, confirm the Optimole plugin is using the correct API key for the paid account.
- Click Refresh Stats inside the Optimole dashboard widget if images are not updating.
- Clear any caching plugins (for example, WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, or LiteSpeed Cache) to ensure visitors see updated images.
💡 Tip: You can find your API key in the Optimole Dashboard under your account settings.
